Steve Maclin Wanted Steel Cage Match To Finish His Feud With Eric Young

Steve Maclin hopes to one day step inside a steel cage and compete in one of the most heralded stipulation matches in wrestling history.

Steve Maclin recently defended his TNA International Championship against Eric Young in a gruesome Dog Collar Match. While that match was a very effective way to finish their rivalry, he originally wanted to step inside a steel cage with the former TNA Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion.

Speaking to Jeremy Lambert and Joel Pearl on Fightful Overbooked's In The Weeds, Steve Maclin noted that he's always wanted to compete inside a cage. Still, with the multi-man Steel Cage Match at TNA Sacrifice happening so close to his final encounter with Eric Young, it wasn't likely that they would be able to finish their story that way. Luckily, a Dog Collar Match was another bucket list stipulation match for him.

"Steel cage. That was something I was pushing for us as a storyline for me and EY to finish there, but with the Lethal Lockdown, it’s not going to happen anytime soon that I know of. That’s what I was pushing for, for a while. The Dog Collar Match was one I had wanted to do for a while because I grew up a big fan of Roddy Piper. My grandmother raised me on it, so he and Greg Valentine were ones that I watched even as I got into wrestling, as I trained, I would go back and watch that because of Piper’s selling and fire, and the moments. It was a lot of fun."

Steve Maclin has teamed up with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T), filming a commercial last October and planning to take part in the T2T Tower Climb in New York City on June 1, 2025, where people will climb 104 stories to honor the heroes of 9/11.

The event supports T2T and the Captain Billy Burke Jr. Foundation, which helps families of fallen first responders and veterans. T2T was started to honor firefighter Stephen Siller, who died on 9/11. It now builds homes for injured veterans and first responders while creating communities for homeless vets in cities across the U.S.

Elsewhere in the interview, he spoke about fighting through excessive blood in his most recent Dog Collar Match against Eric Young.

TNA Wrestling has since issued an edict banning excessive bloodletting. At this link, fans can read what Steve Maclin said about that in another recent interview with Fightful.
