Finn Bálor Considered ‘Rux’ For WWE Name, Triple H Shut It Down Because He Thought People Would Think Of RuPaul
‘Rux’ and ‘Liv’ were considered names for Finn’s WWE run.
Finn Bálor has been with WWE for over a decade. He opened up about his time with the company and more while sitting down with Stephanie McMahon for a recording of her ‘What’s Your Story?’ podcast.
He explained the origins of his ring name and talked about the list of potential names that were considered for him when he joined WWE. He shared that Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque considered calling him ‘Liv.’
One of the other names Bálor had listed was ‘Rux,’ but Levesque shut it down because he thought it would remind people of television host and drag queen, RuPaul.
“The name Finn Bálor is based in mythology, because Bálor is the one-eyed demon king from Gaelic folklore, and Finn McCool… It’s very similar to David versus Goliath, where Finn McCool is the David in this story, and he slays the one-eyed demon. So I put the two together. Because I remember the list you were talking about—of names—it’s super funny. I’ve never said this to anyone else. One of those names — and Paul (Levesque) was especially leaning towards this name– was Liv. I can’t remember other names that were on there. I had actually Rux (listed). Paul said, ‘No, no, no. People will think of RuPaul.’ Yeah, I remember him specifically saying that.” Stephanie sarcastically said Bálor and RuPaul look alike to make light of Triple H thinking that others would hear ‘Rux’ and think of RuPaul, and Finn responded, “RuPaul? I don’t even know who he is. Is it a drag queen or something?”
Bálor was featured on the 5/11 episode of Monday Night Raw, and to read about his appearance, head over to this link.
