Finn Balor Says John Cena's Endorsement On WWE Raw Was Impromptu And Unplanned

Finn Balor speaks on his WWE Raw victory that earned him a Universal Title shot against Brock Lesnar.

On the Jan. 17 episode of Raw, Finn Balor defeated Baron Corbin, John Cena, and Drew McIntyre in a fatal four-way bout to earn a shot at Brock Lesnar and the Universal Title at WWE Royal Rumble. Following the bout, Cena took the microphone and stated that he believes in Balor. You can view the segment in the video above.

WWE Files To Trademark 'MFT'

Speaking to TV Insider, Balor discussed Cena's endorsement.

“I think it would be a big torch to carry, being from the greatest of all time,” Balor said. “That was an impromptu, unplanned, classic John Cena moment. Obviously, John is someone I’ve looked up to since he came on the scene in WWE. When I came to NXT, he was someone who I spoke to and looked to for advice.

“He was someone who has always been there for me through my journey in NXT and in WWE. Him being the professional role model that he is for all of us. He continued to do that in the ring. I’m humbled by his words. Hopefully, I won’t let him down going forward in the future.”

Balor will get a chance to reclaim the title he never lost on Sunday when he faces Brock Lesnar. For fans hoping to see the return of The Demon, Balor recently stated that he is unlikely to don the paint at the Royal Rumble.
