Ms. Ocampo is living out her dream.
Former WWE/NXT backstage interviewer Andrea Ocampo was recently interviewed by Brian Fritz of Sporting News. Andrea is currently working for the Major League Wrestling promotion which was founded by former WWE creative writer Court Bauer. Ocampo has been in the broadcast journalism world for 18 years, but only so many of those were spent in the wrestling industry. She feels that her schedule fits perfectly with MLW, and the promotion simply just lets her be free.
?I understand the culture and I have a passion for it. It fit nicely and the fact that they're very open to my ideas; I'm not just told what to do; I'm actually integrated in the process because I am a producer, I'm not just a host. I'm a producer, I'm a writer and if someone asks my opinion that's great. You should ask for my opinion.?
When the opportunity to work for WWE was first presented to her, she did not know what to make of it seeing as how she had not watched wrestling since a child. But once she got into the swing of things, it became a natural element for Ocampo.
?When it was first brought up to me, I was like wrestling?,? said Ocampo. ?That's cool but I don't remember watching wrestling since I was a kid but I was ready for a challenge. I was ready for an adventure. I was ready for a change. I didn't think I would end up falling in love with it as much as I did. When you're in that industry, you get to know the wrestlers and the sacrifice that it takes to get there. I really was able to appreciate the hard work that they've put into it and I ended up loving it.?
Andrea was only working for the NXT brand for one year, but she is very grateful for the opportunity that she was able to receive and will cherish it as she continues her career in wrestling.
?Obviously, there was a lot of doubt when I started. We all have doubt, we all struggle with doubt. I wanted to be authentic in who I was and just to follow my instincts a little bit more. I was able to leave that world more empowered than ever. There were highs and lows, I was brand new and I left really grateful for my opportunity there because it continued to empower myself in an industry that is dominated by men. I think that is a huge aspect that I will always carry.?
