Gable Steveson On Kurt Angle Comparisons: My Goal Is To Be The Best Version Of Gable, Not Kurt Angle

Gable Steveson isn't interested in being the next Kurt Angle. He wants to be the first Gable Steveson.

Gable Steveson is a 2020 Olympic gold medalist. Gable Steveson is also one of the top WWE prospects in recent years. With open endorsements from Triple H, Paul Heyman, Big E, and more, Gable has been drafted to Monday Night Raw while still wrestling in college in the first ever contract of its kind for WWE.

Being an Olympic gold medalist and such a decorated Collegiate wrestler, comparisons to Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle are only natural. However, Gable is not concerned with living up to their legacies.

Gable Steveson, on WWE After The Bell, opened up about the comparisons to names such as Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle, saying that he just wants to focus on being the best Gable Steveson that he can be.

"It's fine. I don't mind the pressure. People compare me to Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar, it's actually really cool. Kurt Angle is a legend. They're both Hall of Famers at the end of the day. To be compared to those guys is something crazy. It's good and bad. Kurt won a gold medal and I won a gold medal. The difference is, he had a broken neck and I won it in the last one second. My gold medal doesn't exist because if I don't have a broken neck, it's gone.

"The chip is always going to be there because people surround that pressure that I like around me to be a WWE superstar and live up to that hype. That Kurt Angle hype is really good and it drives me to be better than he is. If I don't reach that point, I know I tried and did my best. At the end of the day, my goal is to be the best version of Gable, not Kurt Angle, not Brock Lesnar. Even with their support and their look, I want to be the person I want to be."

Currently, Gable has yet to make his Monday Night Raw debut but is officially on the roster. You can check out an interview that Sean Ross Sapp conducted with Gable at this link.
