Gunther: The Future Looks Bright For Wrestling In Europe

Gunther says the future looks bright for wrestling in Europe.
Later this month, WWE will be bringing its next Premium Live Event, Clash in Italy, to the namesake country for the first time. One of the biggest matches heading into this show is between Gunther and Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Speaking with the Italian Wrestling Channel, Gunther was asked about his experience wrestling all over Europe before landing in WWE.
“Yeah that’s how I came up, right? Gymnasiums and empty venues. But it’s a great learning ground to be honest. Every match back then felt like WrestleMania, I remember that as well. So yeah, I loved that time and it was important part of my journey. We’ve moved on now and progressed and now I’m in the fortunate position to represent WWE on that platform when we come to Europe as the European guy.”
Later in the interview, Gunther was asked about the future of wrestling in Europe.
“As you see in this tour, it’s not like a few shows here and there anymore. WWE is now bringing a PLE to Italy for the first time. I think over the last years the company has shown that they’re very serious about the European market, which, yeah, it’s obviously to my excitement.
I just think if people keep showing up, then I think it’s going to keep carrying on like this. So, the future looks bright for wrestling in Europe, I think. That’s very encouraging for a lot of the European talent that might just starting training or is a few years in, has big goals and wants to achieve a lot of things. I think those possibilities are there now. There’s been a lot of us in the company that had a similar journey. When I started all of that seemed very far away and unrealistic. But now, it’s like the wrestling scene became a lot closer and it’s great for everybody involved.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Gunther commented on possibly getting cheered from the Turin crowd at Clash in Italy. Fans can read his comments here.
