Hernandez Recalls Border Tossing Trainees, Talks 'Secret Student' Who Is 6'9" And 450 Pounds

At the age of 48, Hernandez is still going strong in IMPACT Wrestling, finding himself regularly used on weekly IMPACT programming.

Hernandez has one of the most recognizable finishers in wrestling as his Border Toss (a crucifix toss bomb) looks impressive and impactful each time he hits it.

Speaking on Vic Muscat's Revolution, Hernandez recalled the origin of the Border Toss and how he would use it on trainees.

"I watched Masato Tanaka vs. Mike Awesome and I said, 'I wanna be that dude [Awesome]' and he was throwing people. That's how it came. I was training people in 2002-03, like 15-20 students, and every student had to take three Border Tosses before they got to leave practice. I know it sounds insane now, but back then we weren't worried about CTE and concussions and stuff like that. You were just worried about getting to the next level," he said.

Hernandez continues to train wrestlers to this day and he has a "secret student" who he believes could be a force to reckon with in the coming years.

"I have a secret student. I've been training him since last April. He's still new, he just turned 19. He's 6'9'', 450 pounds. If it wasn't for COVID, he'd already be training in the New Japan Dojo. He's a monster, he's a great kid, and he can turn it on. In the next three years, you'll hear about it. There's no coddling. It's myself training him and two other guys who are already trained. Other students won't even train with him," he said.

Hernandez is currently involved in a storyline with Brian Myers, Matt Cardona, and Eddie Edwards. He teamed with Myers at IMPACT No Surrender to defeat Cardona and Edwards.
