Hiroshi Tanahashi: “If A Wrestler Or Two Leaves, There’s Tons Of Others Looking To Fill The Spots”

Tanahashi speaks his peace ahead of Wrestle Kingdom 13.

This upcoming Friday on January 4th is New Japan Pro Wrestling's Wrestle Kingdom 13 spectacle live from Tokyo, Japan inside of the Tokyo Dome. The match card for New Japan's biggest show of the year is loaded with matches such as KUSDHIA versus Taiji Ishimori for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, a Triple-Threat Tag Team match for the IWGP Tag Team Titles between the champions Guerrillas Of Destiny, The Young Bucks, and EVIL and SANADA. The main event of the show will feature "The Ace Of New Japan" Hiroshi Tanahashi looking to capture his eighth IWGP Heavyweight Title when he challenges the current champion Kenny Omega. Tanahashi has minced no words in the past regarding his feelings about Omega and he echoed similar sentiments when he was interviewed by 'The Japan Times'.

Konosuke Takeshita: I'm Craving Your Belt, MOX

With Cody, The Young Bucks and Adam "Hangman" Page all wrapping up with Ring Of Honor and there being no knowledge on the fans' part about what's next for the group, all eyes are on the Wrestle Kingdom 13 main event to see if Kenny Omega retains the IWGP Heavyweight Title as his contract expires in late January. Tanahashi while not directly mentioning Omega by name, said that if a wrestler leaves the company it only opens up more opportunities for other performers to step up.

“If a wrestler or two leaves, there’s tons of others that are looking to fill the spots available,” Tanahashi says. “Its been this way from the beginning, so there’s little point worrying about it.”

There was a comment from Kenny Omega in the article about the power of social media and to check that out, click here.

There will be live coverage of Wrestle Kingdom 13 and a post-show podcast once the show is over so head over to Fightful's "events" page to get a look at the matches that are going down on Friday.
