Isiah Kassidy Gets Some News, Night Of Champions Press Conference Announced | WWE SD x AEW Recap

Here is your fight size update for WWE Friday Night SmackDown and AEW Rampage on Friday, May 19, 2023.

WWE SmackDown

Shane Helms: CM Punk Has Been A Pleasure Since He’s Been Back, I Haven’t Heard Anything Bad

- WWE announced that the Night of Champions press conference will be held at noon ET on May 26.

- Paul Heyman told The Usos that Roman Reigns forgave them ahead of the main event.

- The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) faced Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar of the LWO. In the end, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens interfered, and the LWO duo picked up the upset victory. After the match, Roman Reigns was clearly frustrated, but he held back Solo Sikoa when the powerhouse tried to make a move.

- Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson) made their SmackDown in-ring debut by facing Ridge Holland and Butch of the Brawling Brutes. The former NXT Tag Team Champions scored the hard-fought win.

- Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa, alongside Paul Heyman, came to the ring. They were quickly confronted by Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. The two teams went back and forth, and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) attacked Owens and Zayn. Reigns got upset with The Usos for interfering with his plan and preventing him from saying what he wanted to say.

- Backstage, Roman Reigns berated The Usos, and it was clear that tensions continued to rise between the two sides.

- Asuka defeated Zelina Vega and picked up more momentum ahead of WWE Night of Champions. Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair made the save when Asuka kept Vega trapped in the Asuka Lock. “The Empress of Tomorrow” spit her mist in Belair’s face, but the champion somewhat dodged it.

- The broadcast team announced that Liv Morgan would be unable to compete for an extended period, so she and Raquel Rodriguez had to vacate the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Rodriguez spoke highly of her partner, and she was interrupted by Bayley and IYO Sky. Bayley challenged Rodriguez to a tag team match on the May 26 episode.

- Grayson Waller hosted the Grayson Waller Effect with AJ Styles and asked him about his upcoming title match at WWE Night of Champions. Styles discussed his recent absence due to injury and stated that he was determined to hit the ground running when he returned. He made it clear that he has been training hard, and he’s ready for the match. Waller predicted that Rollins will score the win.

- The Street Profits faced the team of Rick Boogs and LA Knight, who hyped up the match before the bell. The former tag team champions emerged victorious, and Knight attacked Boogs after the bell.

- Cameron Grimes was asked about his successful debut and noted that he made a big splash. Grimes said he wanted to go to the moon.

- Karrion Kross targeted AJ Styles in a promo, as the new champion was on his newest tarot card.

- NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre scored a dominant victory over Valentina Feroz and Yulisa Leon in their in-ring debut. Leon returned to the ring for the first time since she had knee surgery in September 2022.

- WWE United States Champion Austin Theory came to the ring and recalls how he was ganged up on by Bobby Lashley and Sheamus during their triple threat match. He looked back on beating John Cena, and Sheamus interrupted him. Sheamus dropped Theory with a Brogue Kick.

AEW Rampage

- Isiah Kassidy tweeted a picture of himself wearing a neck brace and stated that he got some good news and bad news.

- Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta) defeated Best Amigos (Trent Beretta & Chuck Taylor) and Bandido.

- TBS Champion Jade Cargill picked up two dominant wins, bringing her streak to 59-0. Taya Valkyrie attacked her and challenged her to a match at AEW Double or Nothing.

- Ethan Page and The Gunns (Austin and Colten Gunn) attacked The Hardys (Matt and Jeff Hardy) and Isiah Kassidy after Matt confirmed that they will face off at AEW Double or Nothing. With a win, Matt will gain control of Page’s contract.

- The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster) and "Daddy Ass" Billy Gunn defeated Varsity Athletes Tony Nese, Josh Woods & Aari Daivari).

- Chris Jericho challenged Adam Cole to an Unsanctioned Match at AEW Double or Nothing. Cole entered the building and took the fight to Jericho, and they brawled until security pulled them apart.

- Dustin Rhodes defeated Bishop Kaun, but Brian Cage attacked him after the match. When Keith Lee tried to make the save, Cage, Kaun, and Strickland attacked him. Strickland left Lee laid out with a Swerve Stomp.

- Kyle Fletcher sent a message to AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy.

- Powerhouse Hobbs and the QTV team teased that the “real story” begins with the premiere of AEW Rampage on June 17.
