IYO SKY Says She Considered Returning To Japan Before WWE SummerSlam Return

IYO SKY thought about returning home to Japan.

SKY was off WWE television after NXT Stand & Deliver as she was dealing with an ankle injury. During that time, there were reports that her WWE contract was about to expire.

SKY (formerly Io Shirai during her NXT run), ended up making a surprise return at WWE SummerSlam alongside Bayley (also returning from injury) and Dakota Kai (re-signed after being released).

Speaking on WWE After The Bell, SKY was asked if she considered returning to Japan before eventually making her return.

"Yeah. I've been here four years. I came here by myself. I don't have family here and that time is so tough. I tried to think, should I stay here more or not. I got injured and after surgery, that time was thinking about my life again," she said.

SKY wondered if having family around would make things more stable. Bayley joked that they had to "reel her back in" ahead of WWE SummerSlam.

In a separate interview with Tokyo Sports, SKY commented on her injury and name change. You can find her full comments by clicking here.

SKY is currently teaming with Kai in the WWE Women's Tag Team Title tournament. They are set to compete in the finals of the tournament after defeating Alexa Bliss & Asuka in semifinals.
