Jim Ross Provides Update On Cancer Treatment

Jim Ross gives an update on his cancer treatment.

Jim Ross recently revealed to the world that he has been diagnosed with skin cancer and it is his hope that he will be back by the final AEW Dynamite for 2021 which will take place on December 29 in Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

On the latest episode of Grilling JR, Jim Ross provided an update on how he's feeling and what he hopes to accomplish without the need for chemotherapy.

"I'm pretty good Conrad, no complaints here on my end, I'm getting ready for it process of a big week here. I start this radiation treatment every day for 22 days, excluding Saturday and Sunday. I wish I didn't know Saturday and Sunday I get through work. But I got to do 22 treatments, and they do Monday through Friday. I got a real good oncologist and, and I've also got the shadow of the Mayo Clinic. So if something is necessary to go there, to that extreme, then I'm here. So that's why I'm doing this to Jacksonville. everybody's wondering, Mayo Clinic's hard to throw away. This is a card you may want to play you hope you don't have to play it. But if you do, it's, it's right there. So I live four miles from the Mayo Clinic. So it'll be an interesting week, to say the least. I always liked new experiences, but this is not quite what I had in mind."

"I'm a little bit nervous, honestly. A little apprehensive, I guess. but I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid, Conrad. It's just a matter of getting started, throwing some punches, and seeing where it takes us. I've got it planned out. If all goes to schedule, my last treatment will be on that day of the Dynamite show at Daily's Place. I'll have my last treatment that morning and then hopefully be back on the air that night. That's the plan. So you gotta have a goal, right? Tony Khan's happy with it — I pitched him the whole concept. I said, 'Hey, we need to talk about this thing. It's like the elephant in the room. Can't ignore it anymore. It's here. It's time.' So I told him what I would like to see him do and as a suggestion."

Jim Ross further explained why he isn't doing chemotherapy and why he isn't continuing at the booth while undergoing radiation treatment.

"Well, as it was explained to me by both my doctors that are working on this deal, it's important to get the number of treatments in and to get them done as consecutively and consecutive days as possible. With us, you know, leaving on Tuesdays, in the airport, going to the next city, working Wednesday, doing Dynamite flying back on Thursday, there's three days right there that might not even work. They may not have time when I get back on Thursday to get me in on a Thursday afternoon. All my treatments are scheduled for the mornings. So I'm going to be up early to get it out of the way. Then move on with my day. I'm just very curious to see. I'm expected to feel good."

Ross continued, "I'm not getting chemotherapy, thank God. You know, I don't wanna lose my handsome head of hair. So, no, I'm not getting chemotherapy, radiation, rugged, a ton of it. Hopefully, it'll nip this thing in the bud, get rid of cancer, and I'll be given a clean bill of health and off we go. So that's kind of in a simplistic nutshell, what I'm looking at doing this week.

"I didn't realize that my surgery on my back was going to be as significant as it was. Because obviously, I can't lay eyes on that place very, very easily, because there's on my back. I think I got 12 stitches. That may not sound like a lot of stitches. But when it's right there. It's just so easy to bump on something, turn over in bed, reach for something, whatever the case may be, and aggravate that deal."

He concluded, "So that was a lot more than I bargained for. That was that little surgery there. Then down below that, they were going to cut that out too. I guess he thought it was too much, so they burned it off."

Jim later noted that with the surgery, the cancer was out of his back and now he has to focus on two more spots, including his shoulder.
