John Cena Enjoyed Having Fun At WrestleMania 35 Without Having To Focus On A Main Event Segment

John Cena discusses his WrestleMania 35 appearance.

While it had been rumored for weeks that Cena would be showing up in some capacity at WrestleMania 35, no one knew exactly what he would be doing. Fans were stunned when they heard "Word Life" hit the speakers in the middle of Elias' headlining performance. Cena returned under the gimmick that helped propel him to the top of WWE; The Doctor of Thuganomics.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Cena discussed how much fun he's had the last two years at WrestleMania.

“This is the first time in a long time I haven’t had to focus on a main-event profile segment,” said Cena. “There wasn’t that looming WrestleMania Sunday in the back of my mind saying, ‘I have to do this and this is what people pay to see.' I had a lot of fun watching it from the crowd last year, because I knew that was going to be special, and this year gave me liberty to have even more fun.”

Following the event on Sunday, Cena told WWE that the company does not need him and that he hopes the fans enjoyed his return as the Doctor.
