Jon Moxley Reveals Brock Lesnar Nixed Shield Reunion At WWE SummerSlam 2018

Jon Moxley talks Brock Lesnar changing plans.

A big story in 2018 was the reformation of The Shield at the Raw after SummerSlam. The trio reunited to help new Universal Champion Roman Reigns fend off Money in the Bank briefcase holder Braun Strowman. The angle got over huge on Raw following SummerSlam, but it was supposed to happen at The Biggest Party of the Summer until Brock Lesnar had other ideas.

Speaking to Wade Keller of PWTorch, Jon Moxley (formerly Dean Ambrose in WWE) detailed the delay of The Shield reunion.

"SummerSlam [2018]; the end of the show was supposed to be The Shield returning. Braun [Strowman] tries to cash in, we powerbomb him, The Shield returns. Would have been super over and the hottest thing. We did it the next night, and it was still the hottest thing. We were worried it wouldn't be as impactful the next night. The end of SummerSlam was Roman [Reigns] vs. Brock [Lesnar]. Braun comes out, looks like a doofus because he can't figure out how to cash in. However, it went was Brock's idea. 6 p.m. before the show, everything that was supposed to happen -- The Shield coming out, the awesome stuff that the writers had been working on to have this perfect ending that was good -- Brock comes in at 6 p.m. and changes everything. Vince was like, 'Okay, we're going with Brock's idea.' They made everybody else look stupid but Brock. The writers are just watching, and they're like, 'We had it.'"

SummerSlam 2018 ended with Roman Reigns defeating Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Universal Title. The Shield reunion would last until October when Reigns took time away to battle leukemia, and Moxley turned on Seth Rollins. They would reunite one more time in 2019 as part of Moxley's farewell tour with WWE.
