Liger retired at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14 in 2020, teaming with Naoki Sano against Hiromu Takahashi & Ryu Lee. He did come out of retirement at Wrestlecade 2025 to face Joey Janela.
Liger is one of the most popular and influential junior heavyweights in wrestling history, winning the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship eleven times.
