Kenny Omega Wanted To Announce That He Was Joining AEW As Soon As He Made The Decision

Kenny Omega felt horrible keeping his decision from people.

It was two days after Kenny Omega dropped the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 13 that he passed the news along to Tokyo Sports that he was departing from New Japan Pro Wrestling. Omega had been a part of New Japan dating back to 2010 and decided that it was time for him to pursue other options in his career. The question of where would Kenny Omega land next hovered over the wrestling world and at the AEW 'Double Or Nothing' ticket announcement party in February, it was revealed that Kenny Omega signed with AEW and would also be taking on the role of co-Executive Vice President.

Kenny Omega is in the midst of a press run to promote his 'OMEGA MAN' documentary. While on that press run, Omega sat down with Alicia Atout of 'A Music Blog, Yea?' and expressed that it was difficult for him to keep his decision to join AEW under wraps.

“I do and I don’t [like sitting on secrets]. I love being transparent with people and I love being openly honest and it pains me when, for example, when I’m signed under a N.D.A. or if there’s like a contractual thing that disallowed me to speak openly about something. I just like being honest and it’s hard for me to lie especially too where it’s like, ‘What are you doing?’ And if I kinda know, I do want to say that I kind of know, but if there’s something in place which stops me from saying what I’m doing, it’s so hard to tell people, ‘I can’t tell you’, because I want to and I’m excited about… I wasn’t forced into any decision. It was a decision I made on my own." Omega clarified. "I’m an adult, I make my own decisions and I’m proud of those decisions. So, when I knew where I was gonna sign, I wanted to announce it immediately, but of course, [there’s] always a plan with those guys [Cody and The Young Bucks] but it was cooler I guess to walk out at the press conference anyway, but I did want to tell everyone, and I guess, you know what? Truth be told, even though I made the decision to sign, it probably was proper to do it at the press conference because I’d actually signed like the real contract, just moments before walking out. So maybe sometimes it’s smart to not say anything until there’s pen to paper right?”

Kenny Omega signed his AEW contract while The Young Bucks were being confronted by Pentagon Jr. and Fenix at the ticket announcement party. Kenny shared that it was right around the time that Matt Jackson took Pentagon's "Fear Factor" that he was fresh off signing his contract and was making his way to the pool area to officially announce his signing.

“So that’s how it went down. It was like, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna go with you guys’ and, ‘[We] have the paperwork ready for you’ and it was a party outside the hotel, or on the poolside area. So I was in one of the rooms and it was like, sign the paper, then pop on my suit jacket, walk down and I remember I kind of joined during… I think Matt was just getting pile-driven on the stage as I came down, and I went on shortly there after so it was pretty much one thing after another." Kenny shared. "There was next to no time. So, yeah, just to keep things prim and proper and official, maybe that was the best way to go about it.”

Omega's next match will take place at 'Double Or Nothing' on May 25th against Chris Jericho and Kenny recently returned to 'Premiere Championship Wrestling' last night which is where he got his feet wet in the wrestling business.
