Kevin Nash reflects on his Sledgehammer Ladder Match against Triple H.
Nash was one of WWE's top stars in the 1990s before he signed with WCW, where he became a founding member of the New World Order. Following the downfall of WCW, he had another run with WWE until he left the company in 2003.
After he spent several years with TNA, Nash returned to WWE again in 2011. He competed in the Royal Rumble match and later attacked CM Punk after he won the WWE Championship at the SummerSlam pay-per-view. In doing so, he started feuding with Punk, as he claimed that Triple H ordered him to attack the winner of the match. Nash and Triple H then engaged in their own rivalry, leading to a Sledgehammer Ladder Match at TLC 2011.
Speaking on his Kliq This podcast, Nash looked back on the match. In response to the notion that he didn't usually compete in ladder matches, Nash noted that he had never wrestled in one prior to TLC 2011. He then pointed out that he barely got to talk to Triple H before it was time for the show. The legend then stated that the bout marked his last singles match on a major stage.
"What do you mean 'both don't normally (have ladder matches)' How about fucking never?! How about I've never done one in my life. I've got 17 knee operations, and he's running the show and I get to talk to him for about eight minutes in the ring before the doors open. That was my last match. Everybody else gets to have a last match, that was mine. Fuck me," Nash said.
When asked about incorporating the sledgehammer, which was suspended above the ring, into the match, Nash noted that the match centered around an 18-foot ladder, and he didn't want to be the one to took the fall.
"Who gives a fuck about a sledgehammer? All I know is you got a fucking an 18-foot ladder. Guess what? Nobody wins until somebody goes off the motherfucker and I wasn't going over," Nash said.
