Kevin Smith Says WWE Didn't Want Him On SmackDown He Appeared On AEW Dynamite

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes were casualties of war.

On the premiere episode of AEW Dynamite, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes were shown in the audience and interviewed, leading to an appearance and short angle with Jack Evans & Angelico. The guest spot was set up by Chris Jericho, who is set to co-star alongside Smith and Mewes in the Jay & Silent Bob Reboot film.

"I went to the world debut of AEW on TNT. I'd never been to a match before," Smith told Rich Eisen on the Rich Eisen Show. "Certainly not one of that size. It was dazzling. I had a really great time. That audience, the energy, they're part of it. Everyone is involved in the performance and the audience is involved in that performance, more so than any other sporting event I've ever been to, where people spectate. They are engaged with wrestling. It doesn't happen without them. They are the other character."

Not only did entertainment fans take note of the cameo, but WWE noticed as well.

"You know how big it was? It was big enough that me and [Jason Mewes] were lucky enough to be involved, Chris invited us. [Mewes and I] were supposed to go do WWE [SmackDown]. And then, the morning after we were on the AEW show -- it trended, there was a lot of coverage and stuff -- the next morning, we were told that WWE was like, 'You can't come on anymore.' They canceled us. They kicked me and Jay off the show. Not in a crazy...they didn't hit us with a chair," he said.

Jericho, sitting beside Smith for the interview, joked, "The first casualty of the wrestling war was Jay & Silent Bob"

WWE rolled out the blue carpet for wrestling legends and entertainers for the SmackDown on Fox premiere, two nights after AEW premiered on TNT.
