KiLynn King shares her thoughts on the potential for a second NWA EmPowerrr event.
NWA held EmPowerr, its first all-women's pay-per-view, as part of NWA 73 weekend in 2021. Mickie James produced the show, with help from NWA President Billy Corgan, and the card featured wrestlers from several promotions, including AEW, IMPACT, and Lucha Libre AAA. The first EmPowerrr was widely seen as a success, but NWA did not hold it again in 2022. Instead, the company ran NWA 74 as a two-night event.
Corgan previously stated that there wasn't enough TV-ready talent to do another EmPowerrr event this year. In a recent interview, NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Trevor Murdoch agreed with these comments.
In an interview with Andrew Thompson of POST Wrestling, King, who competed at the first EmPowerrr event, discussed the aforementioned conversation. She emphasized that she believes there is plenty of talent on the open market, as she works with women from around the wrestling world. King also stated that she can't imagine a scenario where fans never see another EmPowerrr show.
"I think there’s plenty of talent out there. I don’t know if everybody who is a part of creating a second EmPowerrr is aware of the talent. I have the ability where I get booked on a lot of all-women shows. So I’m constantly experiencing women from all over the world whether I’m wrestling or I’m just on the same show with them. I don’t run NWA, I don’t have the wherewithal and say in all that stuff but I can’t imagine that there won’t ever be another EmPowerrr. We had a lot of women from different companies come in for EmPowerrr to represent and have a really strong roster for that show," King said.
King went on to describe how putting on the show could be a challenge because the company likely wants to avoid booking talent for the sake of it. She stated that it's likely a matter of those who make these decisions becoming more aware of the talent that's available and finding the choices that make sense.
"I think it’s just a matter of becoming aware of what’s available and finding an equally strong if not better roster for the next one because you never wanna run a pay-per-view and be like, oh, we need women so just book all these people. You wanna make sure that every booking matters for an event like that so I don’t think it’s a matter of not ever running an EmPowerrr. I think it’s just becoming more aware of what’s available and finding what works. Finding the stories and the talents that make sense," she said.
On the September 6 episode of NWA Powerrr, Corgan said that the NWA will hold another EmPowerrr show soon. More information is available here.
