Konnan Says Vikingo Is Not Signed By AEW, Comments On AAA Working On A TV Deal

Konnan clears the air.

El Hijo del Vikingo made his AEW debut on the March 22, 2023, episode of AEW Dynamite, where he faced Kenny Omega. Over the next several months, Vikingo, who was the reigning AAA Mega Champion at the time, frequently competed on AEW and ROH programming. This led some to speculate that Vikingo was signed by AEW.

Speaking on K100 w/ Konnan and Disco, Konnan was asked why AAA did not try to re-sign Vikingo to an exclusive contract before Tony Khan did. He clarified that Vikingo is not signed to AEW.

“He’s not signed by Tony Khan. He’s signed to us, and he’s one of the very few talents, very good talents that we have, that Tony hasn’t signed. But what’s really fucked us up, when this finally happens, we’ll have a more normal playing field, so we were supposed to get a TV deal like two years ago or something like that, and then the pandemic, a lot of changes were done in the industry. So we’re on our road to that now. Until we get our TV deal and we can get people the proper compensation like Tony does, we’re gonna lose them to him. But once we get a TV deal, a lot of people that aren’t being used right over there or anywhere, they’ll come back home because they know they’ll be used right by us," Konnan said.

El Hijo del Vikingo is currently sidelined as he continues to recover from surgery on his ruptured ligament and damaged meniscus. He recently vacated the AAA Mega Championship. More information is available here.

Brian XL recently said that he had booked a match between Vikingo and Amazing Red prior to Vikingo's injury. Check out his comments here.
