Kota Ibushi Requests To Unify IWGP Heavyweight And Intercontinental Championships

Kota Ibushi is God in NJPW and he has one simple request.

He would like to unify the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships. Ibushi captured both belts at night one of Wrestle Kingdom 15 when he defeated Tetsuya Naito. The next night, he successfully defended the belts against Jay White.

Now, he would like the two belts to become one. In his backstage press conference following his victory over White, Ibushi requested that the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships be unified.

"The IWGP Intercontinental Championship is the greatest belt there is. The IWGP Heavyweight Championship is the strongest belt there is. I want to unify these titles. I want it to be both the greatest and the strongest. Nobody has challenged for just one of these titles. Then what does a double championship mean? I want to unify them. Then I will make my ultimate dreams come true," said Ibushi.

The IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships were brought together at Wrestle Kingdom 14 as part of Double Gold Dash. Tetsuya Naito, the reigning Intercontinental Champion, defeated Kazuchika Okada, the reigning Heavyweight Champion, to hold both titles. As mentioned by Ibushi, the belts have not been defended separately over the last year.
