M By Elegance Didn’t Want Her Moveset To Be Based Around Relying On Other People
M By Elegance had to change her mindset once she became a wrestler.
Before lacing up a pair of boots, the former Maggie Lee wanted to do all of the cool and flashy moves that she watched when she was growing up. Due to her height, things didn’t turn out that way.
“That’s the goal, right? You want to stand out. I actually still think that I don’t use the length of my legs to
my full extent. I need to get touch up my game on that aspect. When I was little, I was a fan of AJ Lee and
I’m like, ‘Oh, all that hurricanrana and stuff like that, that’s all so cool.’ I thought that when I was going to
be wrestling that that’s what I was going to be doing. But I quickly was like, ‘Ah, I’m kind of bigger than
most girls. So that’s not going to work for me. I’m going to have to do different things.’ I came to realize I
don’t want my moveset to be based on relying on other people.” M By Elegance told Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp in a new interview.
Continuing on, M said that working with names like Shazza McKenzie and Heather Reckless helped her gain confidence.
“So during training, I think everybody else thought I was getting it quicker, but I didn’t feel I was getting it
quicker than everybody else. Even after my first couple of matches, I was like, ‘I don’t know if I’m doing a
good job.’ But then I think getting to work with some of more experienced girls like Shazza, Sierra,
Heather at the time, I think that testing myself with somebody at that level and being like, ‘Wow.’ I
remember one time I was wrestling her and—oh ,my gosh—my brain just went [blank] right when the
bell rung. I started crying when we got to the back. I felt so bad. So please don’t watch that match
everybody. I think that once I was like, ‘Oh, dang, I can keep up with these girls and I’m this new.’ But I
also don’t like to give myself too much credit. I feel like I’m always still learning and there’s always more
to learn, more to improve on.”
