At the 2009 Slammy Awards edition of WWE Monday Night RAW, Maria would be voted the 2009 Diva of the year. However, while she was commencing her acceptance speech, Batista would interrupt, spoofing Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift.
While speaking to Wrestling Life Online in a new interview, Maria Kanellis spoke about the moment, noting that Batista felt terrible for having to do the segment.
“Yes, and he felt terrible about having to do it. Yes. Well, at the time, it had just happened (Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift). That whole thing had just happened, and I didn’t know he was going to do that. So I, like the look on my face is the look on my face, and then after he apologized and he’s like, I’m sorry, I didn’t really, but he was so good. He was so good to me and he was so good to my family. He bought my mom dinner on Mother’s Day, like such a nice man. There was like a big group of us and he ended up buying my mom dinner because she had came to the show when it was Mother’s Day weekend. So, but yeah, he felt terrible. It was terrible.”
