Matt Hardy On Private Party: Whatever They Become, I'm Going To Be Held Responsible In Many Ways

Matt Hardy wants to maximize his work with Private Party, both so they can have a good run and set the duo up for success down the road.

Hardy first started working with Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) on AEW TV in 2020, and he eventually prompted the duo to turn heel. The trio stayed together throughout Matt's run with the Hardy Family Office. But once Andrade El Idolo took control of the group, the stable eventually turned on Matt, who then reunited with his brother, Jeff. After a brief run as a team, Matt eventually shifted his focus back to Kassidy and Quen, hoping to free them from Andrade. Instead, Stokely Hathaway acquired the trio's contracts. Since then, Hardy has been at odds with Hathaway and Page, and tensions continue to rise between the two sides.

Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt discussed the storyline and described how he and Page have had a lot of freedom with it. He noted that they wanted to tell a relatively serious story, and they have done that by putting Private Party in a high-stakes situation.

“This whole story has kind of been us figuring out things as we go along. We’ve been given a lot of freedom with what we’re doing and whatnot. We wanted to take a turn where, as opposed to playing mental chess, myself and Ethan going back and forth, we wanted to do something that was a little more serious where there’s jeopardy on someone in the angle. Now the jeopardy is going to be on Private Party," Hardy said.

Hardy went on to describe how he has a genuine bond with Kassidy and Quen. He shared his belief that the duo will be part of his legacy, and he wants them to do well. Hardy noted that, in the storyline with Page, the way "All Ego" has taken out his frustration on them moved everything to the next level.

"As everyone knows, I have a legitimate bond with those guys, I really love those guys. I really feel like they’re my legacy in a lot of ways. Whatever they become, I’m gonna be held responsible for it in many ways. So it’s very important to me that they do good and they do well. But once Ethan starts saying now he’s going to take out his frustrations on them and punish them, it’s where he kind of crosses a line with me and we kind of move up a gear to the next level," Hardy said.

By working alongside Hardy, Private Party often comes to come to the ring to The Hardy Boyz' classic theme. With this in mind, Alba noted that they must be having a lot of fun. Hardy agreed and stated that he's enjoying himself, too. He emphasized that he wants to perform as well as he can in order to maximize their run as a trio.

“They’re having a lot of fun, and they’re really enjoying it, and I am too. It really makes me want to try as hard as I can to dial it in and be as good as I can possibly be and make the most out of this three-man team of the Hardy Party and go as far as we can in the trios division," he said.

Hardy recently stated that he still wants to have a Hardy Boys run in AEW. Check out his comments here.
