Matt Sydal Talks Tony Khan's Reaction To His Injury In Early 2022

Matt Sydal discusses Tony Khan's reaction to his recent injury.

Back in February 2022, AEW star Matt Sydal competed at Prime Time Wrestling event in Chorzow, Oberschlesien, Polen. During that show, Sydal injured his knee in a bout against Nano Lopez. The injury would go on to cost Sydal nearly three months of his career in All Elite Wrestling and on the independent scene.

In a new interview with WrestlingNews.co, Steve Fall asked Sydal if Tony Khan was upset when he found out that he was injured at a non-AEW event.

"When Tony Khan found out what my injury was, he jumped up and hugged me because we didn’t need surgery. He’s as supportive as you could be, as encouraging as you could be. It was a setback. Everybody felt it, like taking the air out of a balloon when that happened. I feel like I have injuries haunting me left and right, but this time, it just made me more focused on coming back, made me more angry, just lit that fire under me because I don’t have all the time in the world. I don’t have a huge career in front of me. I have 22 years behind me, but everything’s that left, every match that’s left is gonna be the best match of my life because I’m at my best right now, and I’m putting out my best work."

Since returning from the injury in May, Sydal has gone on to make a successful return to AEW, while also working for other promotions like Glory Pro and Garden State Pro Wrestling.

Elsewhere in the interview, Sydal discussed the potential of a cruiserweight division in AEW. To learn more, click here.
