Mick Foley Recalls Receiving A Standing Ovation The Day After His Hell In A Cell Match Against The Undertaker

Foley reflects.

The man of many personalities and WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley has been touring the world for the past year-and-a-half on his '20 Years Of Hell' tour. The tour features Mick Foley speaking to fans about that historic night at the 'Civic Arena' in Pittsburgh, PA in 1998 when he and The Undertaker went to war inside of Hell In A Cell.

The match is looked upon as one of the most impactful matches in the history of wrestling and Foley even looks at the bout as the one that put him on the map. Foley's next stop on the '20 Years Of Hell' tour is in Canada and to promote the show he spoke with the St. Thomas Times Journal and during the discussion Foley stated that he did not remember much after the Hell In A Cell match with The Undertaker but he does recall receiving a ton of praise from those backstage the day after the match.

?I was in pretty rough shape. I had a serious head injury, so I don?t recall the reactions that night,? said Foley. ?I do recall the next day in catering ? where we watch our matches the following day ? the entire room stood up and applauded after the match. I?ve never seen that before or since where your colleagues applaud a televised match. It was pretty clear we?d done something special, but none of us knew the match would be talked about for weeks, let alone 20 years." He continued, "Looking at this match, part of the challenge is finding humor in the most unlikely of places. One of those places is the reaction to major head trauma and wondering if it was ok to look back and laugh at it. I?ve signed the papers and donated my brain to science so I decided I?m ok with laughing at a couple of things that went on.?
