Mickie James believes that WWE left money on the table with her and Chelsea Green’s proposed angle.
Chelsea Green, during her time in WWE, pitched multiple ideas to get herself on television. One angle that was shot but later scrapped would have kicked off a story with her and Mickie James that would have been reminiscent of Mickie James’ first story in WWE with Trish Stratus.
Ultimately, James and Green would be released from WWE in 2021 and continue to grow outside of WWE with Mickie James taking on a great role in growing the women's division in the NWA, and as the current IMPACT Knockouts Champion, she is also helping to grow that promotion’s division as well.
Speaking with Metro, Mickie James revealed that she wanted her angle with Chelsea to transition her into more of a backstage role. Also, she believes that the angle would have had the power to be revered on the same level as her 2005/2006 angle with Trish Stratus.
"Within the pitch of Chelsea Green on the way out, it would’ve been a perfect, magical re-circling way to build Chelsea and elevate her and make her a star as I was transitioning to find my foot into this other [backstage] role. For me, I felt like it was the perfect set of business but didn’t seem to hit on that level, and whatever. I don’t wanna say, 'I get it,' because I don’t get it. I know that that story would have been money and I know that would have ended up probably rivaling Trish and I’s angle because it was going to mimic and mirror it, but in a different capacity so well."
Mickie, having been in the industry a long time, no is that sometimes the ideas that you pitch for yourself may be used for someone else. For her, the important thing is that they tell the stories in our proper way and that they treat the audience to a worthwhile story.
"When you pitch an idea and you know and believe it’s really good, and they kinda ho-hum it, or they’ll thumbs down it a bit but then they used the exact same idea for someone else."
She added, “‘I just hope that when those ideas if they’re used on someone else, that that person can either deliver better than I was going to – which a lot of times they don’t, or sometimes they do – or that they tell it the right away, or tell it in a way that means something to the people.”
Chelsea Green discussed the proposed angle and the unaired segment during an interview with Sean Ross Sapp. You can see the clip embedded above.
Next for Mickie James is a Texas Death Match for the Knockouts Championship against Deonna Purrazzo. Chelsea Green will be in the first-ever Knockouts Ultimate X Match. Both of these matches will take place at IMPACT Wrestling Hard to Kill on January 8.
