Missa Kate Explains Decision To Retire, Comments On Potential Comeback
Missa Kate explains her retirement.
At the tail end of 2025, Kate retired from the world of pro wrestling after losing a Career vs. Career match at Chicago Style Wrestling. This news came as a surprise to many fans, especially after a successful 2024/2025 for Kate.
Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Kate talked about her decision to retire.
“When I started wrestling, I did say by the time I’m 30, if I’m not contracted somewhere where it’s like I need to be here for a certain amount of time, that’s it. So the year that I turned 29, I was like trying really hard, I’m gonna give it all I got and I felt like God just kept telling me, ‘No, no, no,’ for different angles. So by the time I turned 30. I was like, ‘You know what? I think it’s time.’ I’m always gonna love wrestling. It’s my first love, but at the same time it’s very strange being a normal person, but I acclimated very well which I was even more shocked by.”
Kate went on to joke about the sudden nature of her decision.
“Just like in Missa Kate fashion, right? Just like, ‘Hey, I’m just doing this thing, by the way.’ I like catching you guys off guard. People didn’t believe it. So for those of you that do know, I wrestled my original trainer, Steve Boz, in my last match and it was career versus career. Everybody thought like, ‘Oh, he’s hanging it up. He’s old. He’s been doing this for a long time, whatever.’ So nobody really came to the match because everyone’s like, ‘Oh, it’s not going to be Missa,’ and it was. It was really cool to make grown men cry. So that was nice.”
Missa Kate also noted she was surprised to see the reaction to her retirement.
“No, but I was honestly surprised. I didn’t think I affected as many people and the thing that shocked me more than anything, I’m not gonna say names, was I did have people reach out to me, like other wrestlers, being like, ‘Wow, you got out,’ and that made me really sad because I’m like, ‘Why do you think that this is all that you have?’ If you think about wrestlers, you are the ultimate entrepreneur. You have so many options; you have so many opportunities, so that part made me sad. But at the same time, hopefully in some way, maybe it inspires a couple people to be like, ‘Alright, I can do shit outside of wrestling.’”
When asked about a potential comeback, Kate noted that she would maybe entertain a really good idea.
“No, I think it’s too soon. If it’s like a good opportunity and there’s certain things that are thrown on the table, maybe, but I’m like, it would have to be like really good because I’m not going to lie. Essentially when I started wrestling, I threw everything into it. Like I forgot about real life, real family, all of that for like essentially seven years straight and now I’m like back in that real world where I’m hanging out with my nephews that I finally get to experience and grow. I’m watching them grow and go to their first baseball games and all this other stuff and friends that I feel like my brain stopped 10 years ago now I’m catching up. So I’m like right now I’m really happy, which is very shocking, right? But no, right now overall I’m doing okay.”
