Fightful Select reported the following:

Buddy Murphy was not in the "creative forecast for WWE" of late. There were pitches for Murphy to team with Wesley Blake again before his release, but they were ultimately shot down. Murphy was said to be easy to work with, and generally receptive to creative.

He would join 205 Live in 2018 and begin his quest for the Cruiserweight Championship. He won the Cruiserweight Championship in October 2018 and held the strap for 183 days. He would align himself with Seth Rollins in January 2020. The team would win the Raw Tag Team Titles shortly after forming an alliance, but their reign lasted just over a month.

Murphy would be entangled with Rollins and the Mysterio family for the better part of 2020, eventually turning on Rollins and entering into a relationship with Aalyah Mysterio. The storyline was quickly dropped with Murphy being taken off television.

Murphy last wrestled in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 37.
