Naomi Pitched The Idea Of Going To NXT A Year Ago, Wanted To Work With Bianca Belair

Naomi is back on WWE television and thriving in the women's division on SmackDown. But things weren't going so well for her in 2019. She was finishing up a feud with Mandy Rose before forming a partnership with Carmella and competing in various matches, including Money in the Bank. While she was consistently used on television, there didn't seem to be much direction for her.

So, she asked for a change.

"I asked a year ago to go down to NXT to work," Naomi told Women's Wrestling Weekly. "I love NXT, it's awesome. At the time, I wasn't being used much on the main roster. 'Can I go down there and see what I can get into?' The talent down there is so good. This was at the time where -- I love Bianca. She's the GOAT. Her personality and spirit is even more beautiful. That was one idea I had, to work against her or to be with her. It wasn't the right time. Bianca is a star all on her own and I think they want her to do that on her own. It's a dream of mine because we've never officially had two African American tag team champions. I would like to see that happen and it would be another first. We're all about firsts now.

"NXT is special for me because I was one of the first women to be on the NXT brand before people actually cared about NXT and before it became what it is."
