Paul Heyman is not fond of the General Manager role.
Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff's names were the topic of conversations within professional wrestling over the past week as WWE made the announcement that Heyman and Bischoff are going to be embarking on their respective journeys as Executive Directors of RAW and SmackDown.
Inside The Ropes released a clip from their live show with Paul Heyman and during the clip, Heyman talked about the role of General Managers in WWE and feels that the role is outdated. At the conclusion of his explanation about why he feels that way, he questioned why a General Manager would need to sign off on a match between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn instead of just announcing the match with the two competitors and going through with it.
?The role of the General Manager is played out. I don?t want to do it because its been going on for 20 years and whether you?re the hero General Manager, the villain General Manager? I don?t know how many people really turn on WWE or any form of sports-entertainment to see how a match is made. The show has become too much of, ?Here?s the story behind the show that you?re watching?, and I think sometimes, people just want to see the show." He said. "I think people just want to understand who the characters are and see the characters pitted against each other in compelling situations or riveting storylines that have nothing to do with the corporate structure that orders the match because the General Manager needs to sign the contract.?
