Following Rhea Ripley getting herself disqualified to save her Raw Women's Championship against Charlotte Flair at WWE Hell in a Cell 2021, a swift decision was made that there must be a rematch.

On the Monday, June 21 episode of Monday Night Raw, Adam Pearce, and Sonya Deville agreed that Rhea Ripley should not be allowed to abuse the championship advantage, and following a brief appearance from Charlotte Flair, it was agreed upon that Rhea Ripley and Charlotte would continue their rivalry at WWE Money in the Bank 2021 on Sunday, July 18.

This will be the first WWE non-WrestleMania pay-per-view in front of a live audience since Elimination Chamber 2020.
