Christian surprised everyone on Sunday when he made his in-ring return during the Men's Royal Rumble match at WWE Royal Rumble.
Christian entered the match at number 24 and lasted over 18 minutes, scoring two eliminations. It was his first official match since 2014 and his first Royal Rumble since 2005.
According to Mike Johnson at PWInsider, Christian was secretly cleared a week before the Rumble after a visit to Pittsburgh. His return was kept quiet from everyone backstage aside from a small number of people.
Christian said in an interview with WWE following the match, "Nobody knew what was happening. I was playing coy all day. It was a fun surprise."
Johnson notes that "the belief is Christian will work a part-time schedule." However, he is not currently scheduled to appear on Monday's WWE Raw.
As pointed out by Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, Christian is still owed an Intercontinental Title match from 2014.
