Report: CM Punk Met With Fox, Did On-Camera Testing For WWE Backstage

The latest news on CM Punk.

Mike Johnson at PWInsider reports that CM Punk was in Los Angeles earlier this week, meeting for a potential on-air role for WWE Backstage. Punk reportedly did some on-camera test material. It was not confirmed if Punk has signed on to be part of the series.

Renee Young was reportedly also present during the meetings. On Sept. 26, Young was announced as the host of the studio show, which debuts on Nov. 5 on Fox Sports 1. Booker T is set to be the co-host. WWE and Fox reportedly want to bring in different on-air personalities for the show.

Johnson also reports that Taz, Paige, Rey Mysterio and Sean Waltman have been brought in several times in recent months by Fox for a potential role.

On Aug. 22 it was reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer that Punk's agent had reached out to Fox regarding a position on WWE's studio show. At Starrcast III on Aug. 31, Punk played coy on the reports but did say he wouldn't "not talk to" WWE if they called him. Punk stated at Starrcast that he doesn't miss wrestling and doesn't hold animosity anymore towards WWE over his departure in 2014.

Since retiring from wrestling, Punk competed in MMA (going 0-2 in the UFC) before transitioning to an announcer for Cage Fury Fighting Championships. He has also co-hosted Ultimate Beastmaster on Netflix and starred in films The Girl on the Third Floor and Rabid.

WWE Backstage will be produced and filmed by Fox at their Los Angeles studio.
