Report: John Cena In Talks To Join "Suicide Squad 2"

Could John Cena play a comic book character?

According to Variety, John Cena is "in talks" to join the cast of "Suicide Squad 2." Idris Elba and Margot Robbie have already signed on to the project. "Suicide Squad 2" is the sequel to 2016's "Suicide Squad," which was a success at the box office (grossing $746.8 million worldwide) but panned by critics (27% on Rotten Tomatoes).

It is unknown who Cena would play in the film. Warner Bros. had no comment.

James Gunn will write and direct the sequel, which is expected to go into production this fall. The film hits theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.

Cena recently finished filming on “Playing With Fire," which is set to release on Mar. 20, 2020. He made an appearance at WrestleMania 35, returning to play The Doctor of Thuganomics, interrupting Elias and spitting some bars at the WrestleMania musical headliner.

He has already signed on to play the lead in "The Janson Directive," which is being produced by The Rock.

It is unknown when Cena will return to WWE television.
