Mercedes Moné Defends IWGP Women's Title At Sakura Genesis, Match With Mayu Iwatani Set

The IWGP Women's Championship is still all about the Moné.

Mercedes Moné successfully defended the IWGP Women's Championship for the first time as she defeated Hazuki and STARDOM's High-Speed Champion in a three-way match at Sakura Genesis.

The match ended when Moné hit the the Moné Maker to AZM on top of Hazuki to earn the victory.

After the bout, STARDOM's "Icon" Mayu Iwatani went face-to-face with Moné, making their match at STARDOM's All Star Grand Queendom on April 23 official. Iwatani faced KAIRI in the main event of Historic X-Over to crown the first-ever IWGP Women's Champion, which "The Pirate Princess" won.

The match came about when Moné continued to speak the name of AZM (incorrectly), leading the 20-year-old to lay down the challenge to face off with the former WWE Superstar. It was at the Cinderella Tournament press conference that Hazuki entered her name into the match and the bout would be made official soon after.

This was V1 for Moné as IWGP Women's Champion.
