WWE NXT (10/17/2023) Results: Carmelo Hayes vs Baron Corbin vs DIJAK, Becky Lynch Appears, More Set

On October 17, 2023, WWE hosted a new episode of NXT on the USA Network. The show was headlined by Carmelo Hayes, DIJAK & Baron Corbin facing each other in a Triple Threat to crown a new #1 Contender for the NXT Championship.

Also on the show, Tony D'Angelo & Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo hosted the "Bada Bing Bada Boom Battle Royal" to determine No. 1 Contenders to NXT Tag Team Championship, Becky Lynch appeared, Tegan Nox faced Lyra Valkyria, and Cody Rhodes's last announcement as General Manager was revealed.   • NXT Tag Team Championship - #1 Contender's Bada-Bing-Bada-Boom Battle Royal: Chase University (Andre Chase & Duke Hudson) def. Angel Garza & Humberto Carillo, Brooks Jensen & Josh Briggs, Charlie Dempsey & Drew Gulak, OTM (Lucien Prince & Bronco Lima), Hank Walker & Tank Ledger, Damon Kemp & Myles Borne, Gallus (Wolfgang & Joe Coffey), Creed Brothers, and Malik Blade & Edris Enofé.
    • With this win, Chase University will challenge The Family (Tony D'Angelo & Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo) for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Halloween Havoc.
  • Blair Davenport cut a promo backstage calling out Gigi Dolin, where she stated that she wanted to derail Dolin’s career. Davenport challenged Dolin to a match at Halloween Havoc.
  • Lexis King (Brian Pillman Jr) cut a promo backstage, where he stated that he was aiming at starting his own legacy rather than continuing the career of Brian Pillman. He will debut at NXT Halloween Havoc.
  • Carmelo Hayes came to the ring to cut a promo but was interrupted by Baron Corbin. Corbin talked down upon Hayes for acting "like a fan" last week with John Cena but was interrupted by DIJAK telling Corbin & Hayes to focus on their match later tonight. NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov appeared in the titantron to address the challenges before revealing Cody Rhodes's last announcement as General Manager: Trick Williams being inserted into the main event. Williams appeared before the brawl ensued, with Hayes & Williams standing tall.
  • Fallon Henley spoke with the participants of the NXT Women's Breakout Tournament before Tiffany Stratton interrupted. Stratton talked trash about Henley, saying that the participants should aim to be more like her and less like Henley.

  • NXT Women's Breakout Tournament - First Round Match: Karmen Petrovic def. Jaida Parker.

  • Tegan Nox was training backstage ahead of her match against Lyra Valkyria before she was met by Natalya. Natalya told Lyra she would accompany Nox to the ring for her match.
  • Lyra Valkyria def. Tegan Nox (w/ Natalya).
    • WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Chelsea Green & Piper Niven distracted Natalya & Tegan Nox. In the last parts of the match, Nox & Valkyria exchanged pins before Valkyria hit a Spinning Leg Lariat followed by a Big Splash for the win. Nox & Natalya brawled with Niven & Green after the match.
    • Lyra Valkyria cut a promo in the ring, where she promised to win the NXT Women's Championship from Becky Lynch. Becky Lynch cut a promo from the titantron, where she stated that she was the #1 wrestler she wanted to face since winning the title, but Lynch then said that she would fight as her life depended on her to make her child proud.
  • Trick Williams & Carmelo Hayes spoke backstage ahead of their match later tonight. The two were not happy with how Williams's involvement in the #1 Contender's Match happened, but they both agreed to do everything possible to become the new contender to Ilja Dragunov's NXT Title.
  • Gigi Dolin was interviewed backstage before unveiling the Spin The Weel Make the Deal. Dolin spun the wheel before landing in a Light's Out Match.
  • There was a vignette of Von Wagner in the hospital training for his return, where he struggled to work out with a band. Mr. Stone was with Wagner, and he gave Wagner some words for inspiration.
  • Shotzi def. Kiana James.
    • Roxanne Perez pulled out a brick from James's bag. This allowed Shotzi to hit James with the brick-loaded bag before hitting a senton for the pinfall win.
  • Meta-Four (Noam Dar, Lash Legend & Oro Mensah) were interviewed backstage while Dar called on the phone. Akira Tozawa interrupted Meta-Four and called out Dar. The interview was cut short to reveal that Trick Williams was attacked backstage.
  • Kelly Kincaid (formerly known as Quinn McKay in ROH) revealed that Trick Williams was transported into a Hospital and would be removed from the NXT Championship #1 Contender's Match.
  • NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio was interviewed backstage in the lounge before being immediately attacked by Nathan Frazer.
  • NXT Women's Breakout Tournament - First Round Match: Ariana Grace def. Brinley Reece.
  • Bron Breakker was interviewed by McKenzie Mitchell backstage before being confronted by Mr Stone. Mr. Stone challenged Bron Breakker to a match at NXT Halloween Havoc, which Breakker accepted.
  • NXT Championship - #1 Contender's Match: Carmelo Hayes def. DIJAK & Baron Corbin.
    • With this win, Hayes will challenge Ilja Dragunov for the NXT Championship on Night Two of NXT Halloween Havoc.
  • Lyra Valkyria watched the main event backstage before grabbing a picture of herself & Becky Lynch. Valkyria said that she would take the title off Lynch before ripping up the picture. As Valkyria left the room, Jade Cargill appeared on the television signaling to her watching to end the broadcast.
