Cody Rhodes steps aside.

The February 2 episode of WWE SmackDown closed with The Rock and Roman Reigns meeting face-to-face in the middle of the ring.

Bayley: At Backlash I'm Going To Be In The Ring With Two Women I Respect

The Rock was introduced by Cody Rhodes, who came out to make his WrestleMania decision as he stood across from Reigns. Cody said that he wanted the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and he wanted everything Roman Reigns has. He said he was going to take it all from Roman, but not at WrestleMania. He then noted the special counsel he had been talking to, bringing out The Rock.

Rock and Cody embraced before Cody left the ring, leading to Rock and Roman squaring off.

Before Cody came out, Roman addressed his "little brother" Seth Rollins, saying that Seth broke his back trying to carry the show and that workhorses shouldn't be walking with a limp. Roman noted that Seth does work ten times more, but he makes ten times more money. Roman closed his solo portion of the promo by saying Cody can be the very best number two or he can take a crack at number one again.

Rhodes earned his shot at the champion of his choosing by winning the men's Royal Rumble for a second straight year. He lost in the main event of WrestleMania 39 to Reigns.
