The Rock's Manager And Ex-Wife Discusses His Success In Hollywood

When The Rock moved from the ring to Hollywood, his transition was not the smoothest.

His current manager and ex-wife Dany Garcia was interviewed by Newsweek and talked about how being himself helped The Rock's acting career. Before she officially became his manager, Garcia helped The Rock make decisions about his career. One of those difficult decisions involved The Rock's physique left over from his WWE career.

“It was like, what does a Hollywood star look like? It didn’t look like Dwayne Johnson. He was like, ‘Okay, I need to conform. Maybe, I’m too big.’ He was so slim. He dropped down to sort of embrace ‘this is what a Hollywood actor does.’ But it wasn’t feeling great,” said Garcia

But the change did not last long. The Rock made decisions about his career, including asking Garcia to be his manager.

“We had a movie come out called Faster at the tail-end of his CAA (talent agency) run. It was a small but important movie because the decision was made that he would be himself from this point on; he was going to train the way he trained, eat the way he eats. He was going to make Hollywood make room for him instead of trying to fit himself into Hollywood,” said Garcia.

Today, The Rock is the highest paid actor in Hollywood and his professional partnership with Garcia thrives. The Rock will be appearing in the Disney animated movie Moana on November 23rd in theaters.
