Roman Reigns says he respects John Cena for his verbal ability but knows that John Cena does not speak as much truth as he does.
John Cena and Roman Reigns will headline the first-ever Saturday night SummerSlam in a match for the WWE Universal Championship. While this won't be the first time these two men clash on pay-per-view, it is likely to be the first time they headline a card and it is the first time they will be clashing in a televised match for a championship.
John Cena is in a phase of his career where he is a part-time performer as he is looking to expand his horizons and branch out into Hollywood. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Roman Reigns praised how much John Cena has accomplished thus far in his acting career and stated that while it's encouraging to see how he's been able to utilize what he developed in WWE in other mediums, he will make sure that John Cena wishes he stayed in Hollywood when they're in the ring together on August 21
“There’s no denying that John is doing a great job in Hollywood,” Reigns says. “It’s very encouraging to see the way he’s transitioned and displayed the performing arts skills he learned in WWE. But come SummerSlam, when he’s in the ring with me, John is going to wish he stayed in Hollywood.”
Discussing their verbal spats, Roman Reigns would say that he has been excited from the moment John Cena returned at Money in the Bank to test himself against John Cena but he believes that John Cena, while he is very skilled on the microphone, says sensational things when he knows that he can't hang with “The Tribal Chief.”
“Once his music hit, I knew there would be a magnifying glass on us, which is exactly what you want,” Reigns says. “I knew that moment was going to mean a lot. It’s been that way ever since as we’re headed to SummerSlam.
“John is sharp with his insults, he’s a great live performer and a maestro of the crowd, but not everything he says is true. I don’t say stuff just to get a great reaction, I get a great reaction because people connect with what I say. There are facts all over my promos, and we’re constantly laying out a compelling narrative. No one can do what I am doing right now.”
