RVD Says Sabu Always Carried A Nail In His Boot For Protection, ‘It Wasn’t A Gimmick’

RVD reveals a fun fact about Sabu.

Throughout the majority of his life, Sabu maintained a very close relationship with Rob Van Dam despite still working with him in over 200 matches across multiple promotions.

During a recent episode of WWE Retrospective, Van Dam was chatting about a 1998 match with Bam Bam Bigelow when he mentioned that Sabu always carried a nail in his boot.

“People don’t know this, Sabu carried a nail in his boot all the time for protection. That’s what he just pulled out and stabbed him in the eye with. He always had that, it wasn’t a gimmick. It was something — ever since we started, he always had a nail in case something didn’t go his way and he needed to defend himself in the ring.”

Sabu sadly passed away in May 2025.
