Sam Adonis comments on El Grande Americanos success in AAA.

Adonis has been a staple of AAA and lucha libre for the past several years, and has remained a part of the companies shows, last appearing for the company in late March. Over the course of the past couple of years, both El Grande Americanos have been fan favorites in the promotion.

While speaking to SOTO619 in a new interview, Sam Adonis spoke about still watching the AAA product, noting that he has been good friend with El Grande Americano for many years and then admitted he has a ‘little jealousy’.

“I watch as much as I can. I’m still traveling and wrestling with a lot of the guys on AAA. So it’s kind of in my face on a daily basis. I’ve actually been… good friends with El Grande Americano for many years. I’m happy for him, happy for his success. There is a part of me that definitely has that little jealousy inside because, you know, I’ve been essentially in that role that he’s making the most of for the last nine years. But it is what it is. Wrestling is all about opportunity. It’s his opportunity right now. I’m not going anywhere. I put in far too much work, and as far as Mexican Lucha Libre goes, I’m probably the most qualified and experienced Caucasian there is or anyone outside of Mexico for that matter. So I bring a lot to the table and I’m sure my best days are still ahead of me. So I don’t lose too much sleep over it.”

Adonis then addressed the idea of being paired up with El Grande Americano, noting that it is not as simple as pitching it and it being used immediately.

“I didn’t really think of that, but that actually makes a lot of sense. So again… It’s a very complicated process. I don’t know if it were as easy as a good idea getting in somebody’s ear and, you know, materializing. I think a lot of better TV would be out there across the board. But, you know, these are businesses. These are products. These are intellectual properties that have a lot of money at stake behind them, and it’s just unfortunately not that easy. So if I could call up somebody and say, ‘hey, how about I help him on TV?’ I would, but… Not the case.”

Elsewhere in another recent interview, Sam spoke about how being in the same industry as his brother Corey Graves has negatively impacted his career. You can read more about that here.
