SANADA Becomes Longest Reigning IWGP World Heavyweight Champion

SANADA reaches a milestone.

It's November 6 in Japan, which means SANADA has reached 212 days as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, surpassing Shingo Takagi, who held the title for 211 days.

SANADA won the title from Kazuchika Okada at NJPW Sakura Genesis 2023 on April 8. He has made four successful title defenses during his reign, defeating Hiromu Takahashi, Yota Tsuji, Jack Perry, and EVIL.

His next title defense is scheduled for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 against Tetsuya Naito.

The IWGP World Heavyweight Title has a different lineage than IWGP Heavyweight Championship, which became inactive in 2021 when Kota Ibushi combined the IWGP Heavyweight Title with the IWGP Intercontinental Title to form the IWGP World Heavyweight Title.

There have been only seven IWGP World Heavyweight Champions since the title was created.
