Shane Helms Says He Pitched 'The Hurricane' Having Mike Awesome In His Stable As 'Captain Awesome'

Shane Helms says he wanted Mike Awesome to be his Hurri-Sidekick along with Mighty Molly.

In 2001, WCW and ECW closed up shop and both Brands were consolidated into the World Wrestling Federation. From this merger, several notable competitors were able to get their major break including names such as Booker T, Rob Van Dam, Chavo Guerrero Jr, and eventually names such as Rey Mysterio as well.

Sadly, one major star from ECW and WCW that never made much Headway in WWE was Mike Awesome. Awesome had made a huge splash in Extreme Championship Wrestling before defecting to WCW where he would stay until the promotion closed its doors in March of 2001.

In WWE, Mike Awesome?s biggest moment came on June 25, 2001, when he captured the WWE Hardcore Championship in Madison Square Garden. Throughout the rest of the Invasion storyline, Mike Awesome was never given a major push but another former WCW Superstar who made his way to the WWE by way of the Invasion storyline now says that he pushed to have Mike Awesome paired with him.

Shane Helms, who played ?The Hurricane? character in WWE liked having an Entourage of superheroes at his side. His first sidekick was Mighty Molly, the former Molly Holly who had hit her head and was rescued by The Hurricane and turned into his sidekick. On Twitter, Shane Helms revealed that he wanted Mike Awesome to be paired with them and called ?Captain Awesome?

Shane would say the idea wasn't turned down just put aside for a Shane Helms and Lance Storm tag team and never resumed.

Shane Helms would later pair himself with Rosey, the brother of Roman Reigns. Rosey would be known as a ?Super Hero in Training? and they would later be joined by Stacy Keibler who would be dubbed ?Super Stacy.?

Mike Awesome would make an appearance at ECW One Night Stand in 2005, before sadly passing away in 2007.

Helms currently works as a producer in WWE and makes sporadic appearances as The Hurricane on occasions when WWE hosts nostalgia-driven shows.
