Sonya Deville reflects on the past two years of her career.
Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose burst onto the main roster in November of 2017 as hench-women of sorts for former 3-time WWE Women's Champion Paige and together they were known as 'Absolution'. After Paige was forced to step away from in-ring competition later that year and officially retired the night after WrestleMania 34, Sonya and Mandy were moved to SmackDown Live.
Tonight at WWE's 'Elimination Chamber' pay-per-view, Mandy and Sonya will have the opportunity to become WWE Women's Tag Team Champions when they step inside the Elimination Chamber structure to fight for the belts. Sonya recently spoke with Last Word On Pro Wrestling prior to the Chamber match and reflected on the journey she and Mandy Rose have had thus far on the main roster and said that it was surreal to have debuted alongside her real-life best friend.
?Debuting alongside my best friend Mandy Rose in our group Absolution was surreal. Not only were we going to be a part of Monday Night RAW but together as a tag team with my best friend. It was a dream and it all came to fruition. That night was the most exciting experience of my career running through the crowd into the ring and jumping the girls." Sonya recalled. "That will go down as one of my favorite moments in WWE.?
Sonya further opened up about being the first openly gay woman to be signed to WWE. She said that she loves being able to share her story and spreading positivity to all.
?I love being able to share my story to help others relate or cope with their own stuff they have going on at home. My personal life is a big part of who my character is. Sonya is the way she is for a reason and I love enlightening the fans on what those things are because so many people are going through similar experiences and have amazing stories. I love to hear and relate to myself. Spreading the positivity is just as important as telling the difficult stories. It?s all about informing and growing together. With experience we can do that." She said.
