Sonya Deville Wants To Keep Spreading Positivity In The LBGTQ Community Through WWE

Sonya Deville discusses being a role model in the LBGTQ community.

During her time on Tough Enough, Sonya Deville came out to the public, becoming the first openly gay female in WWE. Speaking to Asbury Park Press, Deville discussed her role in the LGBTQ community as a WWE superstar.

"Being a part of the LGBTQ community myself, it's another passion of mine to let my fan base know that I represent another demographic in the WWE and we are diverse and it's OK to be you," said Deville. "And that's kind of another message I'd like to spread while I have this platform. I've seen it grow over the past five years in the world in general since I've been out myself, since I came out on WWE 'Tough Enough' three and a half years ago, whatever it was. So absolutely I'm super-confident that it's going in an amazing direction and I'm happy to be someone who can spread that positivity."

Deville will take her message to a different platform later this year as she joins the cast of Total Divas for their ninth season. She is currently scheduled to compete in the Women's Battle Royal this Sunday at WrestleMania 35.
