Stephanie McMahon Recalls Receiving A Phone Call That Ric Flair Had Punched Eric Bischoff

Ric Flair and Eric Bischoff had a contentious relationship that fans saw play out in real time on WCW and then WWE television in the 90s and 2000s.

Flair was often embarrassed on WCW TV by Bischoff, though he did get his licks back, notably shaving Bischofff’s head.

Speaking on What’s Your Story? Stephanie McMahon and Charlotte Flair recalled a story where it was Ric’s hair that got him hot at Bischoff.

“I asked him what was something that he couldn’t get past, mentally,” Charlotte said, speaking about interviewing her father on her upcoming podcast. “He said when they made him cut his hair, the first time he walked through the Charlotte airport, no one knew who he was. To my dad, that’s like, ‘No one knew who I was?’ Seeing the pain on his face and him saying my uncle Arn and mom got him through it, but him articulating that to me was…I won’t give away the whole thing.”

Stephanie asked, “Did he tell you what he did to the person who made him do that?”

Charlotte confirmed that he did.

Stephanie recalled, “I think I’m in charge of talent relations at the time, I could’ve been. At any rate, I get the call that your dad has punched Eric Bischoff in the face. I think we were in Kansas City for some reason. He held on to that…..He was ready to explode. It was like his identity.”

Charlotte said that Ric told her that it never grew back the same.
