Mickie James has consistently personified "hardcore country," throughout her life and subsequent Pro Wrestling career. Now admittedly, this is not the first time I've written about MIckie James for Fightful.com and Fightful Magazine, and I'm sure it won't be the last either. Especially with the business leading her on the wildest of rides like no other. While at times it's maddeningly unpredictable. The business can be unforgiving and backward. Other times it can be the ride of a lifetime. The twists and turns allowing for a great story and an even greater more incredible journey the likes of which Mickie James is currently on and prospering as your IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts World Champion in her fourth reign.
Mickie James has always been a woman I've looked up to and still do as I prepare for my return. From 1999 and through on to today, Mickie James has been an integral part of Women's Wrestling and Pro Wrestling as a whole. No stranger to limiting beliefs, she's smashed through glass ceilings, put her name on the line to help up and comers like myself, and she continues to reject the boxes that others try so hard to put us all into as stars in wrestling. She cuts down old paradigms of success and being the best in this business. She is a now a pioneer in her own right, and in my opinion, as a woman in wrestling, I wholeheartedly believe she is an asset to any company or any division.
Mickie James transcends. She transcends with a believability that speaks volumes to her passion, her mission, her as a person, and her dedication to the craft that she's honed for over twenty years. She is never boring. Always working. Always inspiring. She is always helping talent to believe in themselves even when no one else will. From her times with Daffney at OVW, her WWE storylines with Trish Stratus and LayCool to TNA IMPACT Wrestling with Tara, and Gail Kim, to today as your current IMPACT Knockouts Champion in the 34th annual WWE Royal Rumble, Mickie James has always been on the edge of change.
Change for the better in the business. For the better of the divisions she was in. Change for what she believes in. Advancement. The betterment of everyone. The new age of wrestling. The edgy storylines. The fourth wall. The forbidden door. Mickie James has and continues to usher in change. Wrestler. Booker. Agent. Manager. Singer. Song writer. Talent Scout. Actress… There's very little that this woman can't do or won't achieve! And this weekend she is once again on the edge of change!
This weekend as Mickie James lands in St. Louis Missouri, she'll be gearing up for another milestone on her already once in a lifetime resume. Mickie James will in fact be the first woman to walk into a major WWE PPV as another company's champion. Mickie James walked into the 34th WWE Royal Rumble in St. Louis as your Knockouts World Champion! Fresh off of a huge win the first ever Knockouts Texas Death match, bruised and battered and yet still fierce as she represented all the years of hard work and progress put forth by the women of WWE and of IMPACT Wrestling.
Mickie James stands a very good chance in spite of getting on the business end of Savannah Evans and Tasha Steelz. Her recent win over Deonna Purrazzo in the main event at Hard to Kill set the tone for Knockouts starting off 2022. IMPACT Wrestling kicked off 2022 with some historical moments including the first ever Knockouts Ultimate X match and of course Mickie James and Deonna Purrazzo in the first ever Knockouts Texas Death match. Like I said, on the edge of change…
Her work with NWA reviving the Women's Division with EMPOWERRR and the NWA Women's Tag Team Titles to becoming a 4x IMPACT Knockouts Champion and then set her sights on the WWE Royal Rumble and the road to Wrestlemania. I think it is safe to say that Mickie James does in fact usher in a new era for the IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts and of opportunity going forward. With Mickie James at the helm there will be more milestones in the not so distant future for the IMPACT Knockouts Division. WWE? AEW? NWA? They are closer for the Knockouts than ever before and they are as ever deserving. From 2007 to now the Knockouts have represented some of the best Women's Wrestling on TV and have pushed the envelope and the preexisting molds for women on TV. Mickie James where there then and she's here now.
A lot of people pretend to fight for what's right. They wait for when it's trending or convenient. Or when it may gain them favor. But Mickie James? She's always been real. She pulls no punches and lets the full weight of her actions be felt as they match her words. Mickie James is no stranger to opposition and she is as ever a fighting champion. Fighting for representation. Fighting for respect. Fighting for what's right. Redeeming those who have been wronged. Giving those a chance who were seemingly overlooked. Fighting for opportunity. Fighting for the future. Mickie James in her fourth reign is ushering in a new era for The Knockouts. She is Hardcore Country and she is your IMPACT Knockouts World Champion.
