The Wonder Years’ Lead Vocalist Recounts Creating Becky Lynch’s New WWE Theme, Her Being Emotional After SummerSlam Match

The song has references to Lynch’s family.
At WWE SummerSlam, Becky Lynch debuted her new theme song, which was created by The Wonder Years. The lead vocalist and songwriter for the band, Dan ‘Soupy’ Campbell, was interviewed by Metro.
He told the outlet about the process of creating Lynch’s new theme and shared that there are references to Lynch’s daughter Roux, husband Seth Rollins, and Lynch’s late father.
“The lyrics aren’t anywhere yet, but I worked in a reference to Roux in the first verse, where there’s like a wink to Roux’s name, and then I worked in a reference to Seth (Rollins) in the second verse, and then the chorus references her dad.”
Campbell shared that after Lynch retained her Women’s Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam, she came up to him emotional and expressed how much the song means to her. She added that the last time her father saw her wrestle was at a SummerSlam.
“We went backstage, and she came up to me crying, and was just like, ‘It just meant so much, because the last time my dad saw me wrestle live was here at SummerSlam.’ That’s what I was looking for. I wanted to make something that was really important to her.”
Campwell would go on to state that Lynch wanted the song to mark a new iteration of her on-screen character.
“She wanted a whole kind of new presentation of her character. I think that she was like, it’s time to move into a new era for me, and that means new music. I just wanted to make something that she was going to love, more than anything else… She was like, ‘No, write a Wonder Years Song. I want something very specifically you. There’s a reason I’m asking your band.'”
Lynch is scheduled for in-ring action on the 8/11 Monday Night Raw. She’ll be competing against Maxxine Dupri in a non-title bout.
