Tony Khan Provides Update On Jay Briscoe Tribute Show, Wanted To Build FTR vs. Briscoes More On TV

The wrestling world tragically lost Jamin Pugh (Jay Briscoe) in a car accident on January 17. One day later, following a live episode of AEW Dynamite, AEW taped matches for a tribute show that will air for free at a later date.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan said that they will give more information about when the tribute show will air following the January 25 episode of AEW Dynamite. Tony mentioned that the show will be three hours and include matches taped on January 18, highlights from Jay's career, and comments from his peers. The show will air on YouTube and HonorClub.

The funeral for Jay will be held on Sunday, January 29 at Laurel High School gym in Laurel, Delaware. A candlelight vigil is set for Wednesday at the Lee Elliott Worship Center in Laurel.

Mark Briscoe is set to make his AEW debut on Wednesday's Dynamite when he faces Jay Lethal in a match that both men requested. It was previously reported that the Briscoes could not appear on AEW television at the request of Warner Bros Discovery due to homophobic comments made by Jay in 2013, which he had apologized for multiple times.

The Briscoes had a trilogy with FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) throughout 2022 that took place at ROH events, but the Briscoes were never on AEW television.

"They had great matches and it's hard to pick. It's one of my favorite trilogies of all time. What they did last year in Ring of Honor, to have the amazing Tag Team Title match at Super Card of Honor, the great two-out-of-three falls match at Death Before Dishonor, and then at Final battle, to have the incredible dog collar match, I think the trilogy will stand the test of time. I wanted to be able to do more to build these matches up on television, I really did. Within the best of my abilities, I tried to build the matches up and at least give them the platform to be able to have these matches even if we couldn't do all the promos and stories on television that we wanted to," said Khan.

A donation page was set up on Thursday morning for the Pugh family. Fans can donate by clicking here. AEW released a memorial shirt on Monday with 100% of the proceeds going to the Pugh family.
