Tony Khan Says Competition Is A Driving Obsession In Sports And Wrestling

Tony Khan has often stated that AEW is a challenger brand to WWE, and AEW has proven to be the first viable challenger since WCW went out of business in 2001.

In AEW's first five years, the promotion has multiple shows on network cable television and has sold over 80,000 tickets for one event.

Appearing on WFAN Daily, Tony Khan was asked if he is trying to beat WWE.

"Yeah, I want to be ahead, but it's a constant fight. It's 52 weeks a year. Wrestling is the only sport with no offseason," he said, explaining how other sports have an offseason where competition may slow, but wrestling is constant.

Asked if it's an obsession to beat WWE, Khan replied, "Fighting is an obsession. It really is a driving obsession, competition is, especially in wrestling and sports."

Finally, Khan was asked if it might be harmful to be too focused on beating WWE and not focused enough on AEW.

"Similar to sports, you have focus it and try to do your best. That's how you win in sports too. You keep going out and doing your best at whatever you're trying to do," he said.

Elsewhere during the interview, Khan commented on AEW potentially coming to Max streaming service. Fans can find his full comments by clicking here.
